Paxton Solo: phone-based access control and installation.

Where Paxton’s phone-based access control fits, what the door installation needs and how Digilec can help you put it into service.

Paxton Solo: your phone manages access and opens the door.

Paxton Solo is a phone-based, cloud-hosted access control system. Administrators use the Solo app to manage the installation and users access permitted doors using their phones and a Solo DoorTag.

Its architecture does not require an on-site data network or a dedicated access control server. This gives it a different role from a conventional networked door-access system, particularly where getting a network connection to each controlled area is difficult.

Digilec can supply and install Paxton Solo, coordinating the controller, DoorTag, power supply and locking hardware with the way your site operates. We establish the required doors, users and access rules before recommending the installation.

A useful option where conventional infrastructure is difficult.

Solo can be worth considering for a separate building entrance, a remote store or a small commercial site where phone-based access suits the people using it. It can also be considered across multiple sites, with the management arrangements defined around your operation.

The benefit is simpler access control infrastructure. The decision still depends on how people arrive, who administers access and what should happen when a user has no usable phone.

Control access without extending the office network.

A business may want authorised staff to enter an outbuilding without distributing physical keys. We assess whether Solo fits that requirement, then install and commission the door hardware and agree the access arrangements with the building operator.

Check the real experience for your users.

The Solo app is available for iOS and Android. Supported phone models and operating systems should be checked during the design, alongside the position of the DoorTag and the way users interact with it.

Paxton documents differences between iPhone and Android access. We demonstrate the relevant process during handover so users know what to expect at the door.

Solo also has defined offline-access periods. Paxton’s published guidance currently describes up to four and a half hours for ordinary users following loss of phone internet connectivity or a cloud outage, and up to seven days for specially authorised keyholders. These are bounded permissions, not unlimited offline access.

We review those arrangements with you and confirm current manufacturer requirements before commissioning. Power failure, a flat phone battery and loss of connectivity are different situations and need their own agreed arrangements.

A simpler platform still needs a properly designed door.

An access control product is only part of the installation. Digilec selects and installs the associated equipment to suit the door, its use and the agreed release requirements.

  • Door hardware: assess the lock, door condition, closing action and any equipment that can be retained.
  • Power and cabling: provide suitable power and connections for the controller and locking equipment.
  • Access configuration: set up users, access levels and time profiles for the agreed operation.
  • Release arrangements: coordinate normal exit, emergency release and any required fire-alarm interface with the project’s agreed requirements.
  • Handover: test access at the door and explain administration, user access and ongoing responsibilities.

No on-site data network does not mean no wiring or power. We survey the installation and confirm what the complete door solution requires.

Choose around the requirement, not the app alone.

Solo uses a credit-based subscription model, with a limited single-door, single-user free mode described by Paxton. A commercial quotation should account for the applicable ongoing costs as well as the installation.

Where you need physical cards, a different administration model, video integration or specific third-party workflows, we assess the appropriate platform rather than assuming Solo provides every function. Our Paxton access control guide introduces Net2 and Paxton10, and our access control solutions page covers the wider choices.

Mobile access on Solo is a different arrangement from Apple Wallet credentials or the Paxton Key app used with Paxton10. We confirm the particular credential experience for the product being proposed.

Support for the system and the hardware at the door.

Digilec can maintain the installation, investigate faults and help with permitted configuration changes. Support includes the controller, power supply, locking equipment and actual door operation, rather than treating every problem as an app issue.

Where the platform and granted permissions support remote assistance, we can provide technical help remotely. Physical faults may still require an engineer visit. We also offer service agreements and one-off fault call-outs, with the scope and response arrangements agreed for your site.

Paxton Solo questions.

Can Digilec install Paxton Solo?

Yes. We can survey your doors, supply and install the required equipment, configure the agreed access rules and commission the installation.

Does Solo need an on-site network or server?

Solo is designed without an on-site data network or dedicated access control server. The door equipment still needs suitable power and wiring, and the system’s phone and cloud connectivity requirements must be considered.

Can we use Solo alongside another access control system?

Potentially, as a separate solution for a suitable part of the site. That does not imply a native integration with your other platform. We assess how both systems would be administered and used.

Phone-based access.
Designed for your doors.

Tell us about your site, the doors you want to control and who needs access. We can assess Solo and quote for the complete installation.
