Less searching. More useful events.

Human detection and line-crossing analytics can make CCTV more useful—but the camera, scene and rules need to work together.

From movement to a more relevant event

Basic motion detection responds to changes in an image. That can include movement from people, shadows, vegetation or other activity. Supported object analytics can help distinguish categories such as people and vehicles, making alerts and searches more relevant.

This is object classification, not necessarily identification of a named individual. It does not make a system infallible, and the available functions depend on the camera and platform.

What line crossing does

A virtual line is configured within the camera view. On supported systems, an event can be generated when a selected object type crosses it in the configured direction. This can help focus attention on an entrance, service route or boundary.

For example, a business might want to review people entering a service area after closing. The useful rule combines the right view, a sensible line position, supported object filtering and an appropriate schedule—not a line drawn across the busiest part of the picture.

Where it can help

Retail and commercial premises may use analytics to focus on activity around entrances or delivery areas. Offices and campuses may use suitable events to assist reviews of quieter routes or out-of-hours activity.

For residential sites, person or vehicle classification can help reduce irrelevant notifications from a busy outdoor scene. In every setting, the objective should be specific: a useful alert or a faster review of an event, rather than a constant stream of notifications.

Design the camera view before the rule

Mounting height, angle, lighting and the size of a person in the image affect the usefulness of analytics. Reflections, obstruction and changing conditions can also influence performance. A clear daytime view is not enough to establish night-time results.

We set up and test supported rules in the actual scene, then adjust them around how the property operates. Analytics should support the response plan; they do not replace appropriate physical security or professional alarm monitoring.

Search and integration can add context

Avigilon Alta Video provides AI-assisted tools for finding relevant footage. Selected Ajax cameras offer object analytics and line-crossing functions. The exact capabilities and licensing are checked against the chosen products.

Where supported, video can also be coordinated with access control or alarm events, helping an authorised operator understand what happened. We confirm the integration and workflow during design instead of assuming every system can trigger or control every other device.

Make the technology useful for your team

Digilec designs and installs CCTV, configures suitable features and provides practical handover and ongoing support. We also review existing systems to establish whether better positioning, configuration or an upgrade would deliver a useful improvement.

Tell us what you want to know when an event occurs. We can work backwards from that requirement to a camera arrangement and set of functions that serve a clear purpose.
