ASSA ABLOY Aperio / Wireless locking / Installation & support

Aperio wireless access control: H100 handles, L100 locks and system integration.

Bring more doors into your access control system with wireless locking. How to select, install and look after an Aperio solution for your building.

More controlled doors. Less cabling at the door.

Access control often starts at the building entrance. Private offices, meeting rooms, stores and staff-only areas can remain on mechanical keys because extending wired access to every door would be disruptive.

ASSA ABLOY Aperio provides wireless locking options that can extend a compatible access control system to those areas. Depending on the selected product and integration, you can manage additional doors within the same access platform rather than create a separate administration process.

Digilec supplies, installs, integrates and maintains Aperio systems. We assess the door hardware, credentials and access platform together, then design the arrangement around the building and the people using it.

H100 handle or L100 lock?

Both are part of the Aperio family, but they do different jobs. Selecting between them starts with the door construction, existing lock and required level of control.

Aperio H100: access control within the handle

The H100 is a battery-powered electronic handle with an integrated credential reader. On a suitable door it can add access control while retaining compatible mechanical locking hardware, giving an interior door a discreet upgrade.

We check the lock case, door thickness, handing, handle arrangement and credential requirements before specifying the product. A compact handle is useful when you want controlled access without a separate wall reader and extensive cabling to the door leaf.

Aperio L100: a complete wireless locking solution

The L100 combines electronic locking with an integrated reader and door-monitoring functions. Appropriate variants can report door and lock status through a supported integration, making it useful where the project needs more information about the door’s condition.

We select the relevant lock variant, dimensions and associated hardware for the door, then confirm which monitoring functions the chosen access platform supports. H100 and L100 should not be treated as interchangeable handles.

Aperio and your access control platform.

Aperio is a locking technology that works with compatible access control systems. The platform still determines how users, permissions, events and supported door functions are managed.

In an online arrangement, the wireless door devices communicate through Aperio hubs connected to the access system. The hub and connection method depend on the integration. Battery-powered locking at the door does not mean the whole system is free of network, power or cabling requirements.

DoorFlow and Aperio

We install Aperio H100 handles, L100 locks and communication hubs, integrating them with DoorFlow to bring wireless internal doors into the same cloud-managed access control system. We select and configure the equipment around the requirements of your site.

Other access platforms may also support Aperio. We confirm compatibility for the exact platform, controller, hub, lock generation and software version before proposing an installation. We also check whether the integration provides the functions you need, rather than relying on the product names alone.

Online and offline are different arrangements. Some Aperio products support offline operating modes as well as online integration. We establish how permissions reach the doors, how events are retrieved and what happens if communication is interrupted for the specific solution.

For wider platform choices and software integrations, see our access control solutions.

Where wireless locking can make a difference.

Aperio can be worth considering when you want to bring suitable internal doors under access control while reducing disruption to an occupied building. Applications can include commercial offices, coworking spaces, education, student accommodation, hospitality and staff areas in retail or leisure premises.

One access platform. More of the member’s journey.

A member may already use a credential at the main entrance but still need a mechanical key for their private office. Where the platform and door hardware support it, wireless locking can bring that office into the access system, with permissions managed alongside the other controlled doors.

The right solution depends on the actual door and use. We assess wireless coverage, security needs and any fire or escape requirements before recommending the hardware. A wireless product should not be selected solely because cabling is inconvenient.

Can members and staff keep their existing cards?

Possibly. Aperio devices support a range of credential technologies, but keeping existing cards or fobs requires compatibility with the specific reader, credential format and system configuration.

We check the credential data being used, including any encryption and configuration requirements. A card branded DESFire or HID does not, by itself, establish that it will work in the proposed arrangement.

Mobile credentials are available on supported products and integrations. The selected hardware, credential service and access platform must support the same arrangement; mobile readiness should not be assumed to mean Apple Wallet compatibility.

Where an existing credential cannot be retained, we explain the alternatives and plan the changeover with you.

Survey, supply, installation and commissioning.

Digilec can provide a new Aperio installation, extend a compatible existing system or assess a building moving away from mechanical keys. We coordinate the wireless hardware with the access platform and the physical door requirements.

  • Door survey: check the lock, dimensions, door condition, closing action and required escape arrangement.
  • Integration design: confirm the access platform, hubs, connections and supported door functions.
  • Wireless planning: assess the door locations and hub placement, then verify reliable communication during commissioning.
  • Hardware installation: fit and configure the selected handles or locks and associated equipment.
  • Access rules: commission credentials, groups and schedules in the agreed management platform.
  • Handover: demonstrate door operation, administration and battery-care responsibilities.

We have operated since 2011 and installed well over 1,000 access-controlled doors. We work with end users, main contractors, electrical M&E contractors, architects and consultants to coordinate the installation with the wider project.

Where doors have fire or escape requirements, the selected hardware combination must suit the agreed strategy and manufacturer documentation. Our escape door standards guide explains the different roles of the relevant standards.

Aperio maintenance and fault investigation.

Battery-powered access hardware needs planned care. Digilec can maintain Aperio H100 handles, L100 locks and associated hubs as part of the wider access control installation.

Agreed service checks can cover battery condition and replacement, handle or lock operation, door closing, wireless communication, credential acceptance and supported status reporting. We select the checks around the fitted product and platform.

A handle not responding, a door offline or a credential rejected?

The cause may be the battery, physical door hardware, wireless connection, hub, credential configuration or access permissions. Our engineers investigate the installation together rather than assuming the lock itself needs replacing.

We can help with existing systems installed by another provider and offer one-off call-outs without an existing service contract, subject to the equipment and system access available. Remote technical support is possible where the platform and granted permissions allow it; physical faults may require attendance.

For planned visits, reduced call-out rates and agreed support arrangements, see our access control service and maintenance agreements.

Common Aperio questions.

Can Digilec install Aperio H100 handles and L100 locks?

Yes. We survey the doors, confirm the access platform and compatible hardware, supply and install the equipment, then commission the agreed access rules and operation.

Can Aperio work with our existing access control system?

Potentially. We confirm the exact platform, hardware, software and supported integration, then advise what can be retained and what needs to be added or changed.

Does wireless access control mean no cabling anywhere?

No. The battery-powered door devices reduce the need for wiring at the door leaf. Online integrations still use communication hubs and associated power and connections.

Can you maintain an Aperio system installed by someone else?

Yes. We assess the installation and required system access before agreeing maintenance or a fault-investigation visit. You can request a one-off call-out without a maintenance agreement.
